Nandan Yao Mountain Cave Heaven World Scenic Area

Nandan Yao Mountain Cave Heaven World Scenic Area is located 18 kilometers east of Nandan County and is directly accessible via a fourth-grade asphalt road. It is a comprehensive scenic area that integrates karst natural ecology with the cultural ecology of ethnic minorities. The area features rare natural wonders such as a cluster of limestone caves, underground grand canyons, sinkholes, and primeval forests, and has been praised as a “Cave Heaven World” by experts from a joint Sino-British-American-Italian expedition team. The site also boasts unique and rich cultural elements of ethnic groups such as the Baiku Yao, Zhuang, and Shui peoples. Covering a total area of 18.2 square kilometers, the scenic area was officially opened in January 2004. Major attractions include En Village Cave, Bachuan River, and Baiku Yao natural villages.

The scenic area combines mountains, water, caves, and forests, presenting a rare multi-layered three-dimensional landscape. Limestone caves are densely distributed here, and underground rivers form an intricate network. Within the 18.2-square-kilometer area, there are hundreds of caves of various sizes and ten underground river outlets, earning it the title “Cave Heaven World” from experts of the joint Sino-British-American-Italian expedition team.
