Jiuling Lake

Jiuling Lake is a large reservoir on the plain, consisting of two sections—Jiuling and Wuling—which were built in February 1956 and April 1957, respectively. The dam is 8.5 meters high, 3.5 meters wide at the top, and 270 meters long in total. With a total storage capacity of 18.5 million cubic meters and a water surface area of 130,000 mu, the two reservoirs are interconnected to form one large lake. Collectively known as Jiuling Reservoir, though man-made, it looks entirely natural.

Jiuling Lake is located 13 kilometers west of Guigang City. Its water is supplied year-round by springs from nine springs at the bottom of the lake and five others, ensuring a constant supply of clear, transparent water where fish and pebbles are clearly visible. The water temperature remains stable—warm in winter and cool in summer. The lakebed is flat, with depths of 4–6 meters. To the southeast of the lake lies karst scenery with steep, unusual peaks, and beneath the mountains are caves that are mysterious and enchanting. Looking out over the lake, you can see white clouds drifting by and green mountains floating on the water, creating a truly picturesque scene. To the northwest, rolling earthen hills rise amid layers of lush forests, with blue waters stretching into the vast sky and misty waves rolling endlessly.

With its vast waters and beautiful mountain and water scenery, Jiuling Lake attracts flocks of migratory birds in all four seasons—a truly spectacular sight—making it an ideal spot for summer retreats and water sports. “Sunset Ducks over West Ling” has been named one of the newly selected Eight Scenic Spots of Guigang.
