Xuanzhou Island

Xuanzhou Island is located in the main course of the Xun River, a major tributary of the Pearl River. It lies 6 kilometers from the county seat of Tengxian County and 70 kilometers from Wuzhou City. The island stretches 5 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width, with a population of over 5,000. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the island.

Xuanzhou is a region known for cash crops. With fertile soil and bountiful produce, it is filled with the fragrance of fruits and vegetables. It is especially famous for its black-skinned winter melons, yielding over 5 million jin annually. Other well-known cash crops include Xuanzhou oranges, Xuanzhou vegetables, and Xuanzhou lychees. In the Wuzhou riverside area, there’s a saying: “No place is richer than Xuanzhou.”

The island is surrounded by lush green bamboo, fragrant with fruits and melons, and home to a simple and friendly local community. Attractions include the former residence of General Shi Yunfei, a famed anti-Japanese commander and head of the supply depot during the Battle of Taierzhuang; Fuxing Middle School; and Guangxi’s largest kapok tree.
