The hometown of Yuan Chonghuan is located in Xinma Village, Tianping Town, Teng County, Guangxi, 42 kilometers from the county seat and 100 kilometers from downtown Wuzhou. It can be reached via the Nanning–Wuzhou secondary highway. This is the birthplace of Yuan Chonghuan, a national hero of the late Ming Dynasty who fought against the Later Jin’s invasion to defend the capital.

Tip: Yuan Chonghuan (1584–1630), a native of Liantang Village, Sishisan Du (present-day Xinma Village, Tianping Town, Teng County), passed the imperial examination in 1619 during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. In 1622, he went to the capital to pay his respects and was exceptionally promoted to the position of Assistant Director in the Ministry of War. Later, he was elevated to Deputy Defense Commissioner, and then to Right Councillor. He commanded the Liaodong army in battles against the Jin forces, achieving three major victories at Ningyuan, Ningjin, and the capital. He repelled Nurhaci and Huang Taiji, who had proclaimed themselves kings and were expanding southward, and made outstanding contributions.

In 1628, he was appointed as Supreme Commander. In November of the following year, when the Jin army invaded the capital, Yuan Chonghuan returned to defend the city. Emperor Chongzhen, believing slander that Yuan had summoned the enemy to the capital, forbade him from entering the city. Yuan Chonghuan led his troops in battle against the Jin forces and secured a great victory in the capital. However, he was still framed by the eunuch faction and was executed by dismemberment in the market on August 16, 1630, under the tyrannical rule of the emperor, dying as a wronged man. This outstanding military commander and national hero of the late Ming Dynasty remains worthy of everlasting admiration.

Yuan Chonghuan (1584–1630), courtesy name Yuansu, art name Ziru, also known as Supreme Commander Yuan, was a renowned general in the late Ming Dynasty. Yuan Chonghuan achieved major victories at Ningyuan and Ningjin, effectively resisting the Qing forces. He resigned and returned home due to Wei Zhongxian. After Emperor Chongzhen Zhu Youjian ascended the throne and removed Wei Zhongxian, Yuan Chonghuan was reinstated. However, he was later falsely accused of colluding with the Later Jin forces during a battle with Huang Taiji. Emperor Chongzhen sentenced him to death by lingchi (slow slicing), exiled his family over 3,000 li, and confiscated his property.
