Classic 7-Day Jamaica Itinerary: Kingston – Blue Mountains – Ocho Rios – Montego Bay – Negril
From the capital’s reggae culture to waterfalls on the north coast and sunset views on the west end, this route covers Jamaica’s most iconic cities and beaches.
Itinerary Overview
D1–D2 Kingston → D3 Blue Mountains → D4 Ocho Rios → D5 Montego Bay → D6–D7 Negril. Within the island, you can hire a car, rent a vehicle, or take domestic small planes. It’s recommended to travel clockwise for the best coastal scenery.
D1–D2 Kingston: Reggae and Capital Culture
- D1: Arrive at Norman Manley International Airport, visit the Bob Marley Museum (56 Hope Road) and enjoy ice cream at Devon House, then stroll along Kingston’s waterfront in the evening.
- D2: Head to the Hope Botanical Gardens in the east, or visit the Blue Hole and Frenchman’s Cove in Portland. Return to the city in the afternoon to explore art markets.
D3 Blue Mountains: Coffee and Hiking
Set off early to climb Blue Mountain Peak (approximately 2,256 meters). You can start before dawn to catch the sunrise. The journey takes you through coffee plantations and cloud forests, with stops to visit coffee workshops and sample the brew. It’s highly recommended to go with a guide, and bring a jacket and plenty of water.
D4 Ocho Rios: Waterfalls and Gardens
Travel to Ocho Rios on the north coast. Climb the famous Dunn’s River Falls, then visit Mystic Mountain or a banana plantation in the afternoon. Explore the town and duty-free shops in the evening.
D5 Montego Bay: Beaches and Historic Estates
Continue west to Montego Bay. Visit Doctor’s Cave Beach and Rose Hall Great House to learn about the history of colonial-era sugar plantations. Experience the nightlife along Hip Strip in the evening.
D6–D7 Negril: Seven Mile Beach Sunset
- D6: Arrive in Negril on the west end. Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, or taking a glass-bottom boat ride at Seven Mile Beach. Watch the world-renowned seaside sunset from a beach bar in the evening.
- D7: Optional visits to nearby attractions like the Blue Hole or Pistol’s Bar (Pelican Bar). Return to Montego Bay Airport in the afternoon for departure.
Tips
- The drive from Kingston to Ocho Rios takes about 1.5 hours, and to Montego Bay about 3 hours. Hiring a car or guide makes the trip more convenient.
- Start early for the Blue Mountain summit—the roads can be slippery, so wear non-slip shoes.
- When driving around the island, be mindful of local left-hand traffic and road conditions.
