Start from the Old Town of Tbilisi, head north to Kazbegi to see the snow-capped mountains and Gergeti Trinity Church, then travel east to the Kakheti wine region, connecting cityscapes with vineyard landscapes.
Itinerary Overview
D1–D2: Tbilisi → D3: Mtskheta → D4–D5: Kazbegi → D6–D7: Kakheti and Signagi. Most road transfers between cities take 1–3 hours. Mountain roads can be affected by weather, so please allow buffer time.
D1–D2: Tbilisi
- D1: Arrive in Tbilisi, stroll through the Old Town and Peace Bridge, and enjoy a city view from Narikala Fortress in the evening.
- D2: Sulfur baths in Abanotubani → Holy Trinity Cathedral → Explore the Dry Bridge Market for antiques → Experience a traditional Georgian supra (feast) at a local restaurant in the evening.
D3: Mtskheta
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mtskheta, including Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery. The scenery at the confluence of two rivers is iconic. Return to Tbilisi in the evening or stay overnight en route to Kazbegi to prepare for the mountain drive the next day.
D4–D5: Kazbegi
- D4: Drive north along the Military Highway, passing Ananuri Fortress and Gudauri Viewpoint, and arrive in Stepantsminda. Stay at a mountain-view guesthouse.
- D5: Early morning hike up to Gergeti Trinity Church to enjoy the view of the church against the snow-capped peaks. In the afternoon, choose to go hiking or explore directions leading toward Mount Kazbek and its glaciers.
D6–D7: Kakheti and Signagi
- D6: Head east into the Kakheti wine region. Visit wineries around Telavi, and experience the kvevri clay-pot wine-making process and wine tasting.
- D7: Tour the town and fortress walls of Signagi, overlooking the Alazani Valley. Return to Tbilisi in the afternoon in preparation for departure.
Tips
- Mountain roads in Kazbegi and Gudauri may close in winter due to snow. Check road conditions before departure.
- Winery visits and tastings usually require advance booking. It’s recommended to arrange a private driver.
- You can take a marshrutka (minibus) or hire a private car from Tbilisi to Kazbegi. A private car offers more flexibility.
