Airport Transfers to/from Town

Nadi Airport is about 8 km from Nadi Town and roughly 20 km from Denarau Island. Taxis are the main option; it’s recommended to agree on a fare before departure or use a hotel transfer service. Driving times across the long east–west span of the main island can be lengthy—for example, Nadi to Suva takes about 3–4 hours. Long-distance buses or flights are available.

In-Town & Main Island Transport

  • Public Buses: Affordable fares make this a way to experience local life, though services may be infrequent and comfort levels basic.
  • Taxis: Available in Nadi, Suva, and resort areas. Short trips are often negotiable or metered.
  • Renting a Car: Drive on the left side of the road; adjusting to right-hand-drive vehicles takes some getting used to. Self-driving around the main island offers flexibility, though road conditions vary.

Inter-Island Transport

  • Inter-Island Ferries: Depart from Denarau Harbour to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. It’s recommended to book ferry tickets in advance.
  • Ferries & Island-Hopping Boats: The Yasawa Islands have well-established island-hopping boat services, ideal for backpackers.
  • Seaplanes & Helicopters: Offer fast transfers to outer-island resorts. Prices are high but save time.

Tips

  • Inter-island ferries can be affected by weather. Leave plenty of time for connections when heading back to international flights.
  • Main island loop driving distances are long. Consider breaking up your trip with overnight stays to avoid fatigue.
  • Download offline maps, as internet coverage can be limited on some outer islands.
