Itineraries 2026-10-03 0 views 7 days
This route connects the thousand-year-old capital Prague, the Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church), and Bohemia’s most picturesque towns, with smooth connections by train and long-distance bus. The pace is relaxed, making it ideal for first-time visitors to the Czech Republic.

Itinerary Overview

D1–D3 Prague → D4 Kutná Hora (day trip) → D5–D6 Český Krumlov → D7 Karlovy Vary or return to Prague. Travel time from Prague to Český Krumlov is about 3 hours; Kutná Hora can be visited as a day trip.

D1–D3 Prague: The Thousand-Year-Old Capital

  • D1: Arrive at Prague Airport → Check in to the Old Town → Old Town Square & Astronomical Clock → St. Nicholas Church → Powder Tower.
  • D2: Prague Castle & St. Vitus Cathedral → Golden Lane → Lesser Town Square → Charles Bridge (less crowded in the early morning).
  • D3: Wenceslas Square → National Museum → Dancing House → Sunset at Petřín Hill, followed by roast pork knuckle at a traditional beer hall.

D4 Kutná Hora: Bone Church & Silver Mining Town

Take a train from Prague (about 1 hour) to Kutná Hora. Visit the Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church), St. Barbara’s Church, and the Italian Court. This medieval silver-mining city once thrived on silver production, and its Old Town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Prague in the evening.

D5–D6 Český Krumlov: Bohemia’s Most Beautiful Town

  • D5: Arrive in Český Krumlov by bus or train from Prague (about 3 hours) → Old Town Square → Castle & Painted Tower → Cloak Bridge with views over the red-roofed town.
  • D6: Morning walk along the Vltava River → Castle Gardens → Schiller’s House. In the afternoon, take a boat ride on the river. Staying overnight allows you to experience the town’s quietest mornings and evenings.

D7 Karlovy Vary or Return

Visit Karlovy Vary for spa treatments, sampling mineral water, and seeing the Mill Colonnade, or return directly to Prague for shopping and departure. If time permits, Karlštejn Castle near Prague is also worth a visit.

Tips

  • Security lines at Prague Castle can be long, so arrive before opening time.
  • It’s best to spend at least one night in Český Krumlov; a day trip means missing the best lighting.
  • Train and long-distance bus tickets can be purchased online in advance, as seats fill up quickly during peak season.

Transportation & Accommodation Tips

The fastest way to travel from Prague to Český Krumlov is by long-distance bus, with tickets available on the RegioJet and FlixBus websites. Most accommodations in Český Krumlov’s Old Town are family-run guesthouses, so book 1–2 months in advance during peak season. The Sedlec Ossuary and St. Barbara’s Church in Kutná Hora require a short walk or transfer from the train station, so allow half a day. If you want to include the spa town, you can take a bus directly from Karlovy Vary back to Prague for departure.
