The central-southern part of Cameroon is relatively stable. The triangle route of Douala–Kribi–Yaoundé is a well-established short trip that combines seaside scenery with urban and highland experiences. All three destinations can be covered in four days, with transportation mainly by private car hire or intercity buses. Road conditions are generally passable, but allow extra time during the rainy season. Each city has its own character: Douala is a humid, bustling economic hub; Kribi is a laid-back coastal town; and Yaoundé is a cool, tidy political capital.
After arrival, explore the Bonanjo and Bonapriso districts to see a mix of colonial-era buildings and modern skyscrapers. Visit local markets and stroll along the Wouri River. In the evening, dine at a restaurant and try grilled fish and ndolé. Overnight in Douala. The city is hot, humid, and rainy, so bring rain gear and quick-dry clothing. Yellow taxis and motorbikes are the main modes of transport within the city.
Head to Kribi in the morning. In the afternoon, visit the Lobe Waterfalls to see their unique sight of plunging directly into the Atlantic Ocean. Then take a walk on the beach and watch the sunset. Enjoy a dinner of fresh seafood and stay overnight in Kribi. If you enjoy water activities, consider arranging a boat trip to see fishing villages or relaxing at nearby beaches. Pay attention to wave conditions and safety advisories.
Spend another half day at the seaside in the morning, then drive to Yaoundé in the afternoon. Upon arrival in the evening, explore the city center and the handicraft market. Overnight in the capital. Yaoundé sits at a higher elevation and enjoys a cooler climate, making it a good place to escape the coastal humidity. In the evening, try local dishes such as poulet DG at a city restaurant.
Visit the National Museum and the zoo in the morning. In the afternoon, head to a nearby monastery or handicraft village to learn about local wood carving and weaving. Depending on your flight schedule, return to Douala or depart directly from Yaoundé. If time is tight, you may keep only the morning itinerary and leave earlier to catch your flight.
If you’re only planning a three-day trip, consider skipping the overnight in Kribi and instead do a one-day seaside trip from Douala, saving more time for Yaoundé. Alternatively, if you prefer the coast, you can shorten your stay in Yaoundé to half a day and extend your time in Kribi.
