Minsk has a well-planned layout with convenient metro and bus services, making it a great base for a short trip. Divide the city into three sections—Independence Avenue, the Old Town, and museums—then dedicate one day to Mir Castle. In four days, you can experience Belarus’s most iconic urban and heritage sights.
Walk north along Independence Avenue to visit Independence Square, the Red Church, Victory Square, and the Obelisk, taking in the grand scale of Stalinist architecture. In the afternoon, tour the National Library, which is itself a landmark. Stroll through Victory Park in the evening.
Start the day at the Great Patriotic War Museum to learn about Belarus’s WWII experience. In the afternoon, explore the colorful houses, craft stalls, and riverside cafes of the old town of Traktar (Trayetskaye Pradmestsye), visit the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the Town Hall Square, and enjoy a local potato-based dish for dinner.
Take a bus or book a private transfer to the town of Mir to see Mir Castle and its courtyards, and climb a tower for views over the surrounding fields. If time allows, include Nesvizh Castle in the same day—the two UNESCO sites are close together and make for a rewarding full-day visit.
Depending on your flight time, visit any remaining museums or markets, and shop for local specialties such as linen products, traditional embroidery, and dairy goods. If you have time in the morning, take a walk around Minsk Sea (Zaslavl Reservoir), a popular spot for cycling and picnics in summer. For purchases, use cash or local bank cards, as international cards may not be accepted. Then head to the airport according to your flight schedule.
