If you’re short on time, focus your trip on the northern Chobe area: base yourself in Kasane to observe elephant herds and river scenery in Chobe National Park, and optionally visit Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side for a compact wildlife-focused short trip. This route works well for a 4-day, 3-night itinerary, with early morning and evening game drives as the main activities, and rest during the day.

Day 1: Arrival in Kasane

Fly into Kasane Airport and check into a camp or lodge along the Chobe River. In the evening, take a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River to see elephants, hippos, and water birds. A river cruise is a signature experience in Kasane, and during the dry season, elephant herds often gather at the river to drink.

Day 2: Chobe National Park

Spend the full day on a vehicle-based game drive in Chobe National Park. Early morning and evening are peak times for animal activity. You can see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lion prides, and various antelope species. During the dry season, large groups of elephants congregate near water sources. Return to camp at midday to rest and avoid the hottest part of the day.

Day 3: Victoria Falls Day Trip (Optional)

Travel overland to Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side to view the falls and walk through the rainforest trails. You can also try bungee jumping or a helicopter tour (requires a separate Zimbabwe visa and confirmation of border-crossing requirements). Alternatively, stay in Kasane for a second boat cruise or birdwatching, or visit the wetlands along the Chobe River tributaries.

Day 4: Kasane and Departure

Spend the morning shopping or relaxing in town, or go on a short morning game drive, then depart via Kasane Airport. If you're continuing south or heading to southern Botswana, you can take a domestic flight to Maun or Gaborone.

Accommodation and Budget

There are many camps and hotels to choose from around Kasane, ranging from budget riverside cabins to high-end luxury safari camps. Prices are higher during the peak season (dry season), so it’s recommended to book in advance. Game viewing activities are usually priced per half-day or full-day, including vehicle and guide. River cruises are charged separately. Please confirm the cost of your itinerary in advance.

• The best time for wildlife viewing in Chobe is during the dry season (May to September), with both boat and vehicle safaris offering unique experiences.
• When visiting Victoria Falls, confirm the border crossing and visa requirements for both countries and allow time for clearance.
