Bosnia and Herzegovina packs a lot into a small space: its two world-class destinations, Sarajevo and Mostar, are just a 2.5-hour drive apart. Staying two nights in each lets you enjoy an intense “East-meets-West” journey without lugging luggage through intermediate towns.
On arrival, check into a guesthouse in Baščaršija, the old town. In the afternoon, explore on foot following the route: Sebilj Fountain → Copper Street → Gazi Husrev-bey’s Mosque → Old Orthodox Church. At dusk, watch the minarets and church bell towers frame the skyline together at Pigeon Square. Dinner features ćevapi and Bosnian coffee, followed by an evening at Latedžizija teahouse.
In the morning, visit the Latin Bridge Assassination Museum and the National Library (Vijećnica, in Moorish Revival style). In the afternoon, take the cable car up Mount Trebević to walk the abandoned bobsled track from the 1984 Winter Olympics and enjoy panoramic views of the city. In the evening, visit the Tunnel of Hope Museum (open until 6 pm in summer), then return to the old town for a Theatre performance or a Sephardic Jewish music show.
Take an early train or bus to Mostar and check into an inn in the old town. In the morning, cross the Old Bridge and stroll through the Kujundžiluk copperware and carpet markets on both riverbanks, looking for the “Don’t Forget” carving on the bridge. After 3 pm, watch the collective diving show by the Stari Most Diving Club. In the evening, climb one of the riverside minarets or enjoy dinner at a restaurant by the Neretva River as the lights come on.
Take a 15-minute private transfer to Blagaj to see the cliffside spring and the Tekke monastery. If time allows, add a visit to Počitelj stone town. In the afternoon, return to Mostar to collect your luggage, then take a bus or train back to Sarajevo for departure—or continue your regional loop south to Montenegro or east to Serbia.
