Itineraries 2026-10-03 0 views 7 days
This 7-day route connects Kosovo’s UNESCO-listed monasteries, the stunning old town of Prizren, the capital’s landmarks, and the Rugova Canyon, combining history, culture, and mountain hiking in one trip.

Itinerary Overview

D1-D2: Pristina | D3: Prizren | D4: Sharr Mountain | D5-D6: Peć and Rugova Canyon | D7: Return to Pristina. Inter-city travel combines long-distance buses and taxis; a private car for a day (approx. €50–80) saves time.

D1-D2: Pristina and Gračanica

  • D1: Upon arrival, snap a photo at the “NEWBORN” monument (repainted with new designs around Independence Day each year) → Walk along Bill Clinton Boulevard to see the statue of Clinton waving → Visit the Museum of Ethnography and the futuristic National Library, then enjoy coffee and rakija in the bar street in the evening.
  • D2: Take a 20-minute private car ride to Gračanica Monastery, a 1321 Serbian Orthodox monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site with exquisite frescoes; in the afternoon, take a minibus or taxi to Prizren (about 2 hours).

D3-D4: Prizren and Sharr Mountain

  • D3: Spend the whole day in Prizren: explore the Stone Bridge and Shadrvan Square, visit the Sinan Pasha Mosque, and check out the museum in the converted Turkish baths; in the evening, climb Kalaja Fortress for panoramic views of the city’s red-tiled roofs.
  • D4: Head into Sharr Mountain National Park for a half-day hike on the Prévalla Meadows; in winter, switch to skiing at Brezovica; on the way down, stop by Prizren’s bar district to sample local rakija.

D5-D6: Peć and Rugova Canyon

  • D5: Take a bus to Peć (about 3 hours), then visit the Patriarchate of Peć in the afternoon — the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church, home to well-preserved medieval frescoes (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
  • D6: Spend the full day in Rugova Canyon: hike along trails between red rock cliffs and try zip-lining; those with more energy can tackle the Gërguballë viewpoint section; in the evening, enjoy grilled trout at a wooden cabin restaurant near the canyon entrance.

D7: Departure

On the way back to Pristina, stop by the Gadim Cave (a stalactite cave, about 1 hour), then explore the Taxi Alley market in the afternoon to pick up honey and ajvar chili sauce. In the evening, depart from Pristina Airport or head to Skopje the next day for your international flight.

Tips

  • The three UNESCO-listed monasteries are spread out and require advance registration, so a one-day private car tour is the most convenient option.
  • If visiting Mitrovica in the north, go during the day and follow local police guidance.
  • Inter-city minibuses leave when full; confirm the schedule between Pristina and Prizren with your accommodation in advance.
