D1–D2 Tashkent → D3–D4 Samarkand → D5 Bukhara → D6–D7 Khiva. High-speed rail (Afrosiyob) is available between Tashkent and Samarkand, and between Samarkand and Bukhara. Between Bukhara and Khiva, it’s recommended to take a private car or shared transport for a smooth and relaxed journey.
After arrival, check into a hotel in the city center. In the morning, visit the Hazrati Imam Complex to admire the solemnity of Islamic madrasas and mosques. In the afternoon, stroll through Chorsu Bazaar to explore local produce amid piles of fruits and spices. In the evening, take the metro to admire the famously ornate stations, then take a walk around the city to adjust to the time difference.

Arrive in Samarkand by high-speed rail. In the afternoon, visit Registan Square, where three grand madrasas stand around a vast open square. The blue domes and intricate mosaic tiles are especially magnificent under the setting sun — a highlight of the trip. In the evening, take a walk nearby to soak in the ancient city’s night atmosphere.
In the morning, visit Gur-e Amir Mausoleum, the stunning blue-domed tomb complex of Timur and his family. Then head to Bibi-Khanym Mosque to appreciate the grandeur of Timurid-era architecture. In the afternoon, explore the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, a series of tile-decorated tombs lining a deep corridor. Then visit the ruins of the Ulugh Beg Observatory to learn about the astronomical achievements of this ruler and scientist.
Travel to Bukhara by high-speed rail or private car. In the afternoon, visit the Po-i-Kalan Ensemble and gaze up at the Kalon Minaret and Mosque. This thousand-year-old minaret was once spared by Genghis Khan’s order. Then explore Ark Fortress and Lyabi-Hauz Plaza, and enjoy tea under a mulberry tree to experience the relaxed pace of life in the ancient city.
Head to Khiva and enter the Ichan-Kala Citadel upon arrival. This well-preserved ancient city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with madrasas, mosques, minarets, and palaces scattered within its walls. In the evening, climb the city walls for a view as the setting sun gilds the earthen-hued old town — a perfect moment for photography.
Spend the morning further exploring the inner city, visiting landmarks such as the Stone Palace and the Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasa, and shop for embroidered and woodcarving handicrafts. In the afternoon, head to Urgench Airport for your departure flight according to your schedule, or return to Tashkent for a connecting flight. If time allows, consider adding a visit to Nurota or Aidarkul Lake.
