Days 1–2: Tongatapu Island (arrive/depart via Nuku’alofa) → Days 3–6: Vava’u Islands (arrive/depart via Neiafu) → Day 7: Return and depart. Domestic flights take about 45 minutes, do not operate daily and are suspended on Sundays. Please book your flights before finalizing your itinerary.
View the Royal Palace exterior, stroll the coastal walkway and visit the Royal Tombs → Explore the Central Market and local craft shops → Watch the sunset at the harbour in the evening, and try ota ika (raw fish salad) for dinner.
Southeast Route: See the Ha’amonga ‘a Maui Trilithon and ancient royal tombs → Drive along the eastern coastal cliffs. Southwest Route: Visit the blowhole at Houma Village to watch sea spray erupt skyward — most impressive at high tide. Rent a car or hire a private driver to cover both routes in one day.
Arrive in Neiafu by morning flight, check into a guesthouse by the bay or a hotel in town. In the afternoon, hike up Neiafu Hill for views over the sheltered harbour’s forest of masts. Book a whale-watching operator for the following day in the evening.
All-day whale-watching cruise: Search for mother whales with calves, and go swimming with them under the guidance of a certified guide. Stop for lunch and snorkelling on a deserted sandbank in the afternoon, weather and tides permitting.
Snorkel at Swallows Cave, enjoy a picnic lunch on a sandy islet, and watch fishing boats return to port in the evening. Those with a larger budget can opt for a two-night liveaboard sailing trip.
Rent a sailboat or small boat to explore the bay, or spend the day at local cafés and craft shops. Edit your photos in the afternoon and join a traditional song and dance dinner in the evening.
Fly back to Tongatapu in the morning to connect with your international flight. If your connection is tight, confirm flight schedules in advance and allow at least three hours for transit.
