Itinerary Overview
D1–D3: Paramaribo → D4–D5: Inland Rainforest → D6: Caribbean Turtle Beach → D7: Commewijne Plantations & Departure. Inland transfers are via chartered boats, cars, and small planes; the itinerary is recommended to be arranged through a local tour operator.
D1–D3 Paramaribo: UNESCO World Heritage Old Town
- D1: Arrival → Independence Square & Presidential Palace → Fort Zeelandia (learn about colonial and independence history) → Evening stroll along the Waterkant waterfront for night views.
- D2: Saint Peter and Paul Wooden Cathedral → Central Market, mosque, and former synagogue sites → Half-day trip to the Jodensavanne Jewish settlement ruins to explore the area’s multicultural history.

D4–D5 Inland Rainforest
Head to central Suriname’s nature reserves or Brownsberg Nature Park. Travel deep into the rainforest by boat, and enjoy activities such as jungle hikes, waterfall pools, and night wildlife spotting. You can also visit Maroon or Indigenous villages to learn about their enduring languages, music, dance, and crafts. With high rainforest coverage and few tourists, this is truly a pristine natural experience.
D6 Caribbean Turtle Beach
Travel to the Galibi Nature Reserve on the northeast coast (usually reached by car and boat from Paramaribo). With a licensed guide, observe leatherback and green turtles coming ashore to lay eggs at night (February–August). Observation requires silence, no flash photography, and no touching. During the day, enjoy birdwatching and mangrove views where the river meets the sea.
D7 Commewijne Plantations & Departure
On the way back, visit historic plantations along the Commewijne River (such as Frederiksdorp and Peperpot) to learn about the colonial-era coffee, sugarcane, and cocoa industries. Return to Paramaribo in the afternoon, then head to the airport in the evening for departure.
Tips
- The inland portion of the trip must be booked through a local tour operator, which includes transport, accommodation, and guides – ensuring better safety and a more reliable experience.
- The rainforest has dense mosquito populations. Bring long-sleeved clothing, insect repellent, waterproof bags, and any necessary medications.
- When observing turtles, strictly follow guide instructions: no flashlights, noise, or touching the turtles.
