7-Day Classic Solomon Islands Itinerary: Honiara – Guadalcanal – Western Province
Start your journey in Honiara, exploring World War II sites and Ironbottom Sound, then fly to Western Province to discover Marovo Lagoon and Gizo diving.
Itinerary Overview
Days D1–D3: Honiara and Guadalcanal → Days D4: Tulagi and Florida Islands → Days D5–D7: Western Province (Gizo, Marovo Lagoon). Domestic flights between Honiara and Gizo take about 1.5 hours. Allow buffer days when connecting with international flights.
Day 1: Arrive in Honiara
Arrive at Henderson International Airport → Check into a city hotel → Explore Honiara Central Market for local vibes → Stroll around Point Cruz in the evening and enjoy dinner.
Day 2: Guadalcanal: WWII Sites
- In the morning, visit the US War Memorial on the ridge for panoramic views of Ironbottom Sound.
- In the afternoon, explore the Vilu War Memorial and the Henderson Airport area ruins to learn about the 1942–1943 Guadalcanal Campaign.
Day 3: Ironbottom Sound Wreck Diving
Go wreck diving or snorkeling in Ironbottom Sound with a certified guide to see WWII ship and aircraft wrecks. In the afternoon, visit the Honiara Botanical Gardens or the National Museum to learn more about history and nature.
Day 4: Tulagi and Florida Islands
Take a boat to Tulagi Island and the Florida Islands to snorkel coral reefs, visit the ruins of the former administrative center, and explore wreck sites. Return to Honiara in the evening or stay overnight in a local guesthouse for a quieter island experience.
Days 5–7: Western Province: Marovo Lagoon and Gizo
- Day 5: Fly to Gizo, go snorkeling in the afternoon, and stay overnight in Gizo or a lagoon resort.
- Day 6: Explore deeper into Marovo Lagoon, island-hop while snorkeling, and visit woodcarving villages and traditional canoe-making workshops.
- Day 7: Spend the morning at sea or relaxing onshore, then fly back to Honiara in the afternoon to catch your departure flight.
Tips
- Domestic flights and boat services are highly weather-dependent. Leave a full buffer day when connecting with international flights.
- Bring your own dive certification, rash guard, and seasickness medication, as supplies are limited on outer islands.
- Carry enough cash for the trip, as ATMs are almost nonexistent on outer islands.
