From the capital to alpine lakes and ancient southern cities, experience the best of Kyrgyzstan’s nature and culture in one trip.

Itinerary Overview

Day 1–2: Bishkek and Ala-Archa → Day 3–4: Issyk-Kul Lake and Karakol → Day 5: Song-Kul Lake → Day 6–7: Osh. The northern section is mainly accessed by road. Travelers can choose a short domestic flight (about 1 hour) or an overland bus ride through the mountains (about 12 hours) from Bishkek to Osh.

Day 1–2: Bishkek and Ala-Archa

  • Day 1: Arrive in Bishkek → visit Ala-Too Square, Osh Bazaar, the National Museum of History, Victory Square, and the Central Mosque.
  • Day 2: A full-day hike in Ala-Archa National Park, following the valley to a glacier viewpoint, then returning to the city in the evening.

Day 3–4: Issyk-Kul Lake and Karakol

  • Day 3: Drive about 3 hours from Bishkek to Cholpon-Ata → relax on Issyk-Kul Lake beaches, visit the open-air petroglyph museum, and watch the lake sunset.
  • Day 4: Head to Karakol → see the wooden Orthodox church and the history museum → visit the Sunday animal market (if it’s a Sunday) → optional hike to Ala-Kul Lake.

Day 5: Song-Kul Lake: Yurt Night

Depart from Karakol or Kochkor and drive up into the mountains to reach Song-Kul Lake, at an altitude of around 3,000 metres. In summer, the area offers vast alpine pastures where you can go horse riding, watch herders milk their animals, stay in a yurt, and enjoy traditional pilaf. The night sky is especially clear. Road conditions are basic, so it’s recommended to hire a local driver.

Day 6–7: Osh: Southern Ancient City

Fly or take a bus to Osh. Climb Sulayman-Too Mountain for panoramic views over the city — a historic site of pilgrimage and trade. Explore Osh Bazaar to get a taste of Central Asian market life. On day seven, depart from Osh or return to Bishkek.

Tips

  • Allow extra time for mountain travel, as weather and road conditions may cause delays.
  • Yurt accommodation at Song-Kul Lake is basic — bring your own sleeping bag liner and warm clothing.
  • Book long-distance bus and minivan tickets at least one day in advance, especially during peak season when seats are limited.
