Four days are enough to explore Jordan’s three most essential highlights: the capital Amman, the rose-red ancient city of Petra, and the Dead Sea. Start from Amman and move from north to south, finishing your trip from the Dead Sea or Amman to reduce detours. If you can only include one destination, make sure to dedicate a full day to Petra—the ancient city is much larger than most people expect.
In the morning, visit Amman Citadel and the Archaeological Museum. In the afternoon, head down to the Roman Theatre. In the evening, stroll through Rainbow Street and the old city market, and try a local knafeh and shawarma. Amman is built on seven hills, with many ups and downs—wear comfortable shoes and save your energy for an evening walk around the city neighborhoods.
In the morning, go to Madaba to see the famous mosaic map at St. George’s Church. Then climb Mount Nebo for views over the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. In the afternoon, head south directly to Petra and arrive at Wadi Musa in the evening. You can join the Petra Night Show (subject to availability).
Enter the park early in the morning, walk through the Siq to see the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), and then visit the Roman Theatre, the Royal Tombs, and the Monastery (Ad-Deir). If you have energy to spare, climb up to the High Place of Sacrifice. Return to Wadi Musa in the evening. If you want to extend your trip to Wadi Rum, plan for an additional day and visit Wadi Rum after Petra—it’s more convenient that way.
Head back to the Dead Sea in the morning to experience floating and try Dead Sea mud treatments. In the afternoon, return to Amman or go directly to the airport. If you’re departing from Aqaba, you can spend this day visiting Wadi Rum and enjoy a half-day by the Red Sea in Aqaba before flying out from Aqaba Airport.
