Days D1–D4: Malabo and Bioko Island → Day D5: Fly to Bata → Days D6–D7: Bata and its surroundings. Travel between the island and the mainland is mainly via domestic flights, taking about 30–40 minutes.
After arriving at Malabo International Airport, head into town and explore the city center on foot: Independence Square, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the exterior of the Presidential Palace, and the seaside promenade. Take an evening stroll along the port area to get a feel for urban life in Spanish-speaking Africa.
Travel to Pico Basilé volcano (approximately 3,008 meters) in the northern part of Bioko Island. With a guide, hike up to high vantage points for panoramic views of the island and the Gulf of Guinea. Along the way, visit a crater lake and observe the cloud forest vegetation and birdlife.
Explore the Moka Valley’s cloud forests and coffee-growing areas. Visit the reserve to learn about the native drill monkey population and primate conservation efforts. Return to Malabo in the afternoon, with a stop at a scenic viewpoint along the way.
Head to the black-sand beaches and fishing villages on the western coast of Bioko Island to experience coastal life in Spanish-speaking Africa. Sample grilled fish and local stews. Return to the city in the evening for rest and relaxation.
Take a domestic flight to Bata on the mainland. After arrival, explore the city center and seaside promenade to experience the distinctly different urban atmosphere compared to the island.
