Days 1–2: Cayenne | Days 3–5: Kourou (Space Centre, Îles du Salut & Devil’s Island, turtle watching) | Days 6–7: Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and the Maroni River. Cayenne is about 60 km from Kourou, and Kourou is about 190 km from Saint-Laurent. Driving or hiring a car is the most convenient option.
Arrive at Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport. After check-in, take a stroll around Palm Square, Fort Cépérou, and Cayenne Market. Watch the sunset by the seaside in the evening and try Creole cuisine.
In the morning, visit the Musée Alexandre-Franconie and the city market. In the afternoon, explore the mangroves and beaches at Remire-Montjoly, or go for a light hike along the Montagne des Singes trail.
Head to Kourou in the morning and visit the Guiana Space Centre (booking required) to learn about the history of Ariane rocket launches. If there is a launch window, watch the launch from the designated viewing area. Spend the afternoon walking around Kourou town and its beaches.
Take a boat from the Kourou dock to the Salvation Islands. Visit the penal colony ruins on Royal Island, Saint-Joseph Island, and Devil’s Island to learn about France’s penal history. Return in the afternoon.
Go to Awala-Yalimapo’s turtle beach in the evening. With a guide, observe leatherback and green turtles coming ashore to lay eggs (April–July). Please follow the regulations of the protected area.
