How to get a visa on arrival, the most comfortable time to visit, daily spending estimates, and tipping and dress tips at attractions—check this out before you go.
Visa & Entry
Most foreign visitors can apply for an e-visa online in advance or obtain a visa on arrival at major international airports such as Cairo. You’ll need a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket, hotel reservation, no less than 2000 USD in cash or equivalent foreign currency, and a 25 USD visa fee. Entry may be subject to random checks. Security conditions in areas such as the northern Sinai Peninsula are relatively complex; please pay attention to safety advisories issued by your home country’s foreign ministry and the nearest embassy or consulate before traveling.
Best Time to Visit
- October–April: Mild climate, best for visiting historical sites in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan.
- May–September: Hot weather, with daytime temperatures in the south exceeding 40°C; plan visits for early morning or evening.
- Red Sea Diving: Diving is possible year-round in Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, with better visibility and water temperature in spring and autumn.
