Day 1–3: Abidjan → Day 4: Grand-Bassam → Day 5: Yamoussoukro → Day 6: Taï National Park → Day 7: Return to Abidjan for departure. Travel between cities is mainly by road, with generally decent road conditions; for trips to Taï, it is recommended to hire a private car or join a local tour. The schedule is quite tight, so please allow some flexibility.
After arriving at Port-Bouët International Airport, head into the city. In the evening, take a stroll along the lagoon promenade in the Plateau district to admire the modern skyline and reflections on the water. For dinner, try attiéké with grilled chicken or kedjenou chicken to experience the nightlife of a West African metropolis.
In the morning, visit the National Museum and St. Paul’s Cathedral. In the afternoon, explore the Treichville and Plateau districts to experience the sharp contrast between old and new neighborhoods. In the evening, browse local markets and craft shops for wax print fabrics and wood carvings.
In the morning, take a walk in Banco Forest to see the preserved virgin trees and suspension bridges within the city. In the afternoon, visit a nearby lagoon fishing village to take a boat ride and observe the aquatic way of life, experiencing the daily routines of local fishermen. Return to the city in the evening for dinner.
Head to Grand-Bassam, about an hour east of Abidjan, to visit the UNESCO-listed colonial old town, the National Costume Museum, and the beaches, immersing yourself in the atmosphere of an early West African port city and its colonial architecture.
Travel to Yamoussoukro, the political capital, to visit the grand Basilica of Our Lady of Peace — one of the largest churches in the world, with an awe-inspiring dome and stained-glass windows. Nearby attractions include the Crocodile Lake.
Head to Taï National Park in the southwest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and pristine tropical rainforest that is home to wildlife including chimpanzees. Guided hikes are required; take measures against mosquitoes and sun exposure, and wear long sleeves, long pants, and non-slip shoes.
Return to Abidjan. Depending on your flight schedule, you can do some last-minute shopping or enjoy a meal at a local restaurant before heading to the airport for departure.
This itinerary combines urban culture with natural rainforest experiences and has a relatively fast pace. If you’re short on time, you may skip the Comoé area and focus on Abidjan and Grand-Bassam. If you prefer nature, consider spending more time in Taï National Park and arrange guides and accommodation in advance. The best time to visit the national park is during the dry season; the rainy season brings muddy roads and more insects, so take proper precautions. For intercity transfers, opt for daytime travel and use reliable transportation, allowing ample time for transitions.
