Andorra Transport Guide: No Airport, No Railways – Reach the Mountains by International Buses and Valley Shuttles
Transport Guide 2026-10-03 0 views
All entry and exit is via long-distance buses from Spain and France, while valley shuttles connect the seven parishes. This guide covers schedules, fares, and winter travel rules for getting around this mountainous principality.

Arriving in Andorra

There are no airports or railways within the country — all access is by road. Long-distance buses from Barcelona (around 190 km away) or Toulouse (around 180 km away) take approximately 3–3.5 hours. Major operators include Andbus, Direct Bus, and Novatel. Buses to Barcelona usually depart from T1/T2 terminals and Sants train station; book tickets in advance and allow time for border checks. Heavy snow in winter can occasionally block mountain passes — check road conditions before traveling.

In-Valley Transport

  • Local Buses (Line L): Main public transport connecting the seven parishes, with services roughly every 15–30 minutes. Cards are accepted for transfers. Stops include ski resorts, Caldea, and shopping streets.
  • Ski Resort Shuttles: Dedicated bus lines go directly to various Grandvalira cable car stations in winter. Staying right at the ski area can save daily commuting time.
  • Taxis: Limited in number and relatively expensive — recommended for groups or those with lots of luggage; book in advance.

Parking and Self-Driving

Parking on main roads in the capital is limited and time-restricted. It’s best to park in public underground garages and walk for shopping. In winter, vehicles must be equipped with snow tires or snow chains as required by law. Mountain roads can be icy at night, so night driving is not advised.

Tips

  • Bus frequencies increase in winter and during the shopping season, but seats can still fill up on weekends — buy return tickets together.
  • Valley buses support card payments; drivers do not give change, so carry small bills or a transit card.
  • Save large purchases for departure day — direct buses have enough luggage space for ski bags.
